Disscusion: Can we rely on technology to solve resource problems?

The world is facing a natural resources crisis in the coming decades. Much has been discussed about how to address the problem, and technological advancements are frequently cited as the panacea. The leading belief is that as we become more technologically advanced our resource constraint problem will diminish and even disappear altogether. Meanwhile we see no slowdown in the extraction of more and more resources. Time is running out. Can we rely on technology alone to solve the resource constraint problems that we will inevitably face?
